Purpose
The purpose of these classes is to help those who are not able to go to a Qur'an teacher to learn the proper recitation of the Qur'an. And to further improve the skills of those who do have a Qur'an teacher.
Who can benefit

   1. People who are unable to find an expert Qur'an teacher close to their homes
   2. Those who cannot leave the house frequently because of household responsibilities
   3. Those who work full time and cannot find time to go to a Qur'an class
   4. Teachers who help other people learn the Qur'an. This class will heavily focus on listening and detecting commonly made mistakes during the recitation of the Qur'an. This can tremendously help people detect and fix their own mistakes, as well as the mistakes of others reciting to them.

What will be taught
Each session of the Quran Tutor will cover different aspects of reciting the Qur'an properly, in the way it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam. The class will begin by teaching the proper pronunciation of Arabic letters and the diacritics of Arabic language (Harakaat). Classes will cover mistakes that people commonly make while pronouncing different letters, as well as the basic and advanced rules of Tajweed and reading the Qur'an.

Although learning Tajweed can properly be done only with a teacher, this class will help our brothers and sisters recognize their own mistakes, and will give easy and simple tips on how to fix these mistakes. Some of these mistakes can even change the meaning of the Qur'an. We hope that insha Allah this class will prove to be a self-help guide for our students.
Class Structure
There are different levels in this class. Each level is completed by attending four one-hour sessions. Each session will meet once a week, typically on a Sunday evening (Eastern Standard Time).

Once students register, they will have access to a study guide, which will contain charts and examples on the different topics covered in the class. During the lecture, the instructor will frequently refer to the examples and charts in the guide.

This class will be an interactive class. During the class, the instructor will use some or all of the following activities/methods, and more if needed:

   1. Direct Instruction (explanation of a concept)
   2. Detecting mistakes (instructor reads certain examples or verses and students have to figure out the mistake(s) (if any) that were made. These will be the mistakes the people commonly make and will train people to be able to listen and detect their own mistakes, as well as the mistakes of others who they may teach)
   3. Recitation of commonly-read Surahs so people can read these Surahs correctly. The instructor will read the Surahs, Ayah by Ayah, and pause after every Ayah/portion so students can recite after him. The instructor will emphasize on the concepts that were learned in class, as well the common mistakes that people may make while reading these Surahs.
   4. Q&A session for students to ask about the concepts that were covered in class.
